What I Do...
As a Transcriptionist, my job is to take your recorded audio or video and transfer the dialogue to paper. It sounds easy enough, but in reality, you need to have more skills than just the ability to type to be a successful Transcriptionist.
Professional transcription requires not only the ability to type, but an above-average command of the English language, grammar and punctuation. It requires a good ear; the ability to understand not only what is being said, but the context as well. Researching unfamiliar terms, names, places, acronyms etc., are equally important.

General Transcripts
General transcription encompasses all forms of transcription with the exception of medical and legal. My turnaround time for general transcript files that are 30 - 60 minutes or less is usually around 24 hours. I provide two types of general transcriptions: clean and verbatim.
Clean transcripts are done by omitting the ers, ahs, ums, ya knows, likes, false starts and other non-essential words, sounds or phrases. For example, if the following sentence was actually spoken as: "And like, sometimes, you know, I have, like, a hard time just, just saying wha-, what I mean," I will transcribe it as: "Sometimes, I have a hard time just saying what I mean."
Although I will edit out some words and sounds in a clean transcript, I make sure to keep the context of what the speaker is saying the same. I just eliminate the unnecessary words to help make for smoother reading.
Verbatim transcripts contain everything that is said; all words, phrases and sounds and utterances. I don't edit anything out. This type of transcription is very common for production transcripts.
